Couch, floor, lap — wherever your pet is already relaxed. Hold one paw and press the toe pad gently so the nail extends.

Take small slices, not one big cut
Trim thin slivers and re-check the light after each one. A small grey dot in the centre of the cut face means stop.

What the light won't do
On white and light nails the quick is unmistakable. On genuinely black nails the LED gives you a glow and a rough boundary rather than a crisp line — helpful, not definitive.

What if I still cut the quick?
Every box ships with styptic powder — press a pinch onto the nail tip for 30 seconds and the bleeding stops. Then treat, end the session, and try one nail the next day.
Does it work on cats?
Yes, and cats are the easier case: claw tips are mostly translucent, so the pink quick is usually obvious.
Battery or charging?
